Street Level Youth Media Workshop, 2007 [Design Build Workshop Leader]
Chicago, IL
Material Exchange collaborated with both Free Geek Chicago and Street Level Youth Media on a workshop to build two student-designed computer stations made out of recycled materials and computer parts. Some wood was collected from the storage space in the basement of Street Level, a couple of painted ply-wood panels were scavenged from a hip-hop event at the University of Chicago, and FreeGeek donated used computer parts for the project.
Students, ages 12-18 worked together to design and build two themed computer stations for installation at the Street Level Youth Media site. FreeGeek helped students to assemble various computer parts into working music stations, and Material Exchange helped to develop the structure of the stations.
All of this was made possible by the creative organizing and skillful oversight of Sze Lin Pang and Brendan Alvendia.
